Firefighters Demonstrate Powerful New Rescue Equipment

Dearborn firefighters use powerful new Jaws of Life style rescue equipment to dismantle a vehicle during a training exercise on Dec. 9. With nearly twice the strength of older Jaws of Life, the Res Q Tec is more effective in cutting through the stronger steel used in current model vehicles. The City of Dearborn purchased the equipment using a $97,000 “Assistance to Firefighters” grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Ford Motor Company donated 12 late-model cars and trucks so that all 120 Dearborn firefighters can train to use the rescue equipment to dismantle vehicles with ultra strong steel.
