Options Exist for Safe Disposal of Expired Medications

February 25, 2012 By News Release

DEARBORN, Michigan – Expired medications can pose a threat to the environment if they are improperly disposed of by flushing them down the toilet or putting them out with the regular trash pick up.

The Great Lakes Clean Water Organization sponsors a program called “Yellow Jug Old Drugs”. This program partners with pharmacies to take back old medicine for proper disposal.

Although no Dearborn pharmacies yet participate, the following are the closest to Dearborn:

  • Todd’s Pharmacy, 25871 Ford Road, Dearborn Heights, 313-406-5279
  • All Care Pharmacy, 7125 Allen Road, Allen Park, 313-386-2273

Wayne County also hosts Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events four times a year. Pharmaceuticals are accepted during these events.

Visit the Wayne County Environmental Services website to find the updated listing for these events.

Questions can be directed to Patrick Cullen at 734.326.4437.
